Smoke and Mirrors Restaurant is located on the High Street of Old Portsmouth, bringing a unique and atmospheric dining experience to Hampshire 

Smoke and Mirrors Restaurant is owned by Jordan Thompson and Caitlyn Odin. 

Jordan Thompson, is a multi award winning chef who has been in the industry for 14 years. After being Marco Pierre White's former executive chef at his home in Wiltshire, Jordan has brought his extensive skill set and knowledge back to his hometown in Portsmouth. Jordan and Caitlyn strive to introduce innovative and signature dishes, accompanied by exceptional service to Smoke and Mirrors Restaurant

Sublime! Michelin star food at very affordable prices!

My husband and I stumbled upon this small, intimate restaurant whilst exploring old Portsmouth. What a find! It’s a quirky setting that has been decorated to give a feast for the eyes. A small but innovative menu is displayed on the door with dishes designed to showcase the ingredients. All dishes are priced very affordably. This is a cosy venue where the personal touch is everything. Caitlyn provides a warm welcome and is attentive but not intrusive throughout. We didn’t realise but we visited on their 6-month anniversary. It’s a labour of love and Caitlyn and Jordan’s passion for what they’re doing really shines through everything. The food was incredible! We shared a generous starter of terrine of guineafowl and cognac wrapped in streaky bacon, spiced figs, crispy sourdough, and guineafowl butter. It set the bar high right from the start! For our mains, my husband had the slow cooked belly of pork, grilled peach, cabbage, creamed potatoes, cloud crackling and jus. He’s a fan of pork belly and had it many times. I had the cherry wood smoked duck breast, parsnip tart, sweetheart cabbage, pistachio and sour cherry jus. The theatre of my dish just added to the sensational food on the plate! The parsnip tart was a revelation! We were both enjoying our food so much, we were speechless! We had to stay on for dessert but needed a break, which was not an issue. The Madagascan vanilla crème brûlée with rhubarb jammie dodger was worth making room for, while my husband enjoyed Caitlyn’s own recipe for an espresso martini…very smooth!

What a wonderful evening we all had. This is a warm welcoming quietly confident restaurant, decor tableware and service is just perfect. But then WOW the food arrives and you are totally blown away by the passion, talent, presentation and exceptional flavours. You can feel and taste the passion and talent this chef has..... Its all about the food and it delivers in everyway. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. It felt like such a treat but the price was incredible. We met the chef and his partner, and what a lovely couple they are, we truly wish them every success and without a doubt this is our new favourite restaurant. Congratulations on being true to your passion, it shows

An Absolute Gem in Portsmouth!!

This is hospitality at it's very best and extremely hard to find nowadays. We went for dinner on my husband's birthday. Emailed to make the reservation and was very quickly responded to by Caitlyn. Everything about the evening itself was just perfect! Small, intimate setting, loved the decor & particularly loved the cutlery!! Staff were so welcoming and friendly but not over the top, very professional throughout. Food was amazing, great quality and carefully prepared. Jordan is the only Chef so everything is created & delivered by himself which is reflected in the presentation & taste. Based on the quality I would've expected the bill to be a whole lot higher. If you are looking for an out of the ordinary culinary experience at reasonable price in Portsmouth then this is your place!
